In my Sunday yoga classes, the teacher finishes the hour of torture pleasant stretching and balancing with a nice reading. Last Sunday, the reading focused on the "secret of surrender". As I lay half comatose, her words suddenly penetrated my brain and I forced myself to actually focus on what she was saying.

Even small moments of surrender are powerful indicators of how different our lives could be if we would only let go.

Wow.

Let go?

As in, stop worrying about things I really don't have any control over? Could I really do that?

Surrender can then be seen as a great strength rather than a weakness.

Really? Are you sure? Because surrender is usually associated with giving up and that's never a positive thing.

...it is never too late to let go, even of things in the past that didn’t work out the way we wanted them to, because surrender is always an option in every moment of our lives.

Hmm. Well, I suppose that makes sense. This reading was really resonating with me for some reason. I think that for years I've felt compelled to do things on my own, that my way was the right way and when things didn't go my way, it stressed me out. The idea of "surrendering" wasn't something I'd considered, but this reading was guiding me into asking why. And I didn't have an answer. Really, what was I gaining? Control, or the idea of control? Are we really, logically, able to have control, all the time? Not likely.

When we finally do surrender, our goals actually become possible, because the act of surrender is, in essence, asking for the help we need.

Well, I, for one, would like my goals to become possible. And if this means "surrendering", maybe it's time to let go.
